Poplin is a kind of plain pattern fabrics woven from cotton or cotton-polyester ultra-fine yarn. Plain pattern as it is, it is very different from other plain pattern fabrics. Its warp density is  much higher than weft density, with average ratio 1.8-2.2:1. The contrast between warp and weft density forms a kind of beautiful pattern on the surface of the poplin fabrics like the following picture shows:
